Obituary for Roy J. Swiatlowski

Roy J.   Swiatlowski
Roy J. Swiatlowski, Age 69 of Manistee died Tuesday, morning August 18, 2015 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids.

He was born on October 8, 1945 in Manistee the son of the late Roy & Genevieve (Wojciechowski) Swiatlowski. He was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School Class of 1963. He served in the United States Navy proudly from May of 1963 to his Honorable Discharge in Sept. of 1966. Roy served in Vietnam and took part in several Apollo recoveries, as well as crossing the Equator four times and traveled around the world twice. He married Lynette Marie Platt on October 21, 1966 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee.

Roy was employed as a supervisor at Martin Marietta retiring on October 8, 2011 after 40 years with the company. He was a member of the Catholic Community of Manistee (Guardian Angels Church), VFW Walsh Post #4499, American Legion Post #10, and the Manistee Saints Hall of Fame. He refereed in the MHSAA for 40 years; girls & boys basketball, volleyball, football, & baseball. He worked two State Finals in baseball as well as games at other levels of the various tournaments. He also was able to ref the various sports with his son for over 20 years. Roy also followed NASCAR and Jeff Gordon and held season tickets at MIS.

He also was a founding member and first president of the Manistee County Federal Credit Union. He also served on the board of directors.

Survivors include his wife; Lynette Marie Swiatlowski of Manistee, one daughter Melanie Renee (Jim) Rutherford and their son; Alexander Jack & their daughter, Tristyn Rutherford and her children; Faith Marie, Serenity Lyn, and Karter Joseph all of Manistee, one son: Stacey (Erin) Swiatlowski and their son; Ara Joseph Swiatlowski of Scottville, one sister; Mary Lynn Burchard of Onekama, two sisters-in-law: Marcia LaFreniere and Vaughn (Floyd) Rozga of Manistee, One Aunt; Lorraine Conway of Manistee, several nieces and nephews, a very special family friend; Judy Pefley.

He was also preceded in death by his in-laws.

Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Guardian Angels Catholic Church with Father Richard Schaeffer celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery where members of the Manistee United Veterans Council will conduct Military Graveside Services.

Relatives and friends will pray the Evening Vigil Service Friday evening at 8:00 PM at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee where friends may call Friday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 P.M..

Memorials in Roy's name may be directed to Manistee Catholic Central or the Manistee Saints.
