Thelma Grace Fletcher, 79, of Walkerville, passed away on April 5, 2017, after a six month intense battle, with her family at her side around the clock.
Thelma was born at home on July 25, 1937, the 12th of 16 children to Freeman and Jessie Hunt. She was raised in Walkerville and continued to live there most of her life. She married Robert Fletcher Sr. in 1953. Together they raised six children on the family farm. Thelma worked at home caring for the children, helped raise a garden from which she cooked and canned. She somehow found time to sew clothing for the family and things for the home for many years. She worked in the area after the children were older and finally retiring from Gray & Company at age 70. Thelma brought joy and happiness into the home by sharing her love of singing and listening to country music along with hymns, yodeling, dancing and many other talents that she held. In the spring, about this time of year, you would be apt to find Thelma in the woods hunting mushrooms. She was also very firm on the thought of a job worth doing, is a job worth doing well.
Thelma’s love and pride for her children and grandchildren could be felt by anyone who met them. Her loving and caring heart will be missed deeply by all who survive her: children, Leon (Darla) Fletcher, Barb (Jim) Thommen, Karlene Tanner, Janet Fletcher, Rob (Lisa) Fletcher Jr., and Sondra (Mike) Weinert; siblings, Freeman Hunt Jr., Donald (LaVeda) Hunt, Delores (Don) Brown, Larry (Norma) Hunt, Donna (Doug) Vigna, and Jerry (Betty) Hunt; 17 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
Thelma’s parents, Freeman and Jessie Hunt, along with nine siblings and one grandchild preceded her in death.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Walkerville United Methodist Church, with visitation starting at 11:00 am.
