Margret Kathryn Kukla (Shea)
Margret K. Kukla, age 87, of Manistee, passed away peacefully at Manistee Medical Care Facility on Sunday, April 2, 2017 surrounded by her family.
Born Margret Kathryn Shea in Manistee on June 20, 1929, she was the daughter of Dennis and Edna (Leopold) Shea. Margret attended Trinity Lutheran and Manistee High Schools. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Margret was united in marriage to her sweetheart Aloysius A. Kukla in Manistee on August 13, 1955.
She was a wonderful and caring wife, mother and homemaker. She loved Christmas-time, decorating her Victorian Christmas tree and baking were the things she loved most. Margret was well known for the many dozens of cookies she made and gave to her family and friends. Her spaghetti was second to none and showed up at just about every family get together.
Margret had many good friends that she and Al went on numerous boating and camping trips with- some that lasted all summer. She also loved animals.
Margret is survived by her loving husband Aloysius A. Kukla, her son Allen W. Kukla of Glenwood Springs, CO, her daughters Margret (Randall) Kocevar of Interlochen, MI and Debra (Dirk) Olson of Manistee, grandchildren; Michael Kenny of Las Vegas, NV, Jacqulyn Schoenherr of Hilo, HI, Susan and Beverly Kocevar, both of Interlochen, MI, great-grandchildren; Branden Grey of San Diego, CA, Erin Grey of Cadillac, MI, Tyler Woods of Interlochen, MI and Amara Cambric of Interlochen, MI, and great-great-grandson Allantae Nix of Cadillac, MI as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Margret was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Scott, brothers Kenneth Harthun and Hudson Harthun, her two beautiful daughters Cynthia Lynn Eble and LeeAnn Stetzel and her granddaughter DeeAnn Grey.
Per Margret’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Margret’s life will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kevin McClain officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until time of service. There will be a luncheon to follow.
The family suggests that those wanting to remember Margret consider a gift in her memory to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
