Obituary for Mary Bernadette Rood

Mary Bernadette Rood, 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Tender House AFC in Big Rapids.

Mary was born on April 15, 1946, in Manistee, daughter of Michael and Theresa (Pepera) Gajeski. Mary was a lifelong resident of Mason County, attending Free Soil School and later, Jean’s School of Beauty. She received a State license in Cosmetology and was the owner and operator of Mary’s Hair Salon. Mary enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing Bingo, working on Jigsaw puzzles and playing the accordion.

Mary is survived by her children, Jeffrey Rood and Bonnie Snyder; grandchildren, Dylan Rood and Tyler Snyder; siblings, James (Ruth) Gajeski, Dorothy Rhodea, Philip (Jenny) Gajeski, and Joseph (Debbie) Gajeski; and many special nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mary in death are her parents, Michael and Theresa; and siblings, Therese (Robert) Jacobson, Norbert Gajeski, Bernadette (Samuel) Hoadley, Edwin (Marilyn) Gajeski, Gertrude (Albert) Grycki; and brother-in-law, John Rhodea.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer, with Father Dan DePew Officiating. Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Tuesday morning from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Memorial contributions may be offered to a charity of one’s choice.

Burial will take place at St. John Cantius Catholic Church Cemetery in Freesoil.
