Stanley Charles Saya
Stanley Charles Saya, age 89, of Scottville passed away on Friday Feb. 17, 2017 at Tendercare of Ludington.
He was born on May 11, 1927 in Sherman Township, Mason County, Michigan, son of the late Frank and Kastancia (Gaigalos) Saya. Stanley attended Custer High School, and graduated with the class of 1945. Stanley enlisted in the United States Army on January 24, 1946, serving until his honorable medical discharge on April 25, 1946.
Stanley married Virginia Lee Griffis on Nov. 26, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer. She preceded him in death on September 26, 2016.
He was an avid card player, enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and loved to work in his garden. Stanley was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Custer and was the Sherman Township Supervisor for a number of years.
Stanley is survived by his daughter, Sally (Bob) Thompson of Fountain; three sons, Stephen (Teresa) Saya of Scottville, Matthew (Jillyne) Saya of Walhalla and Paul (Renee Zimmer) Saya of Scottville; daughter-in-law, Deb Saya, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by parents; wife, Virginia; son, Mark Saya; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony (Lillian) and John (Mary) Saya; sister and brother-in-law, Angie (Bill) Rathbun.
Cremation has taken place and the funeral mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer with Father Dan Depew celebrant. The family will receive friends for visitation from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m. on Friday Feb. 24, 2017 at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington with the rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. Final interment will take place at a later date at St. Mary’s Riverside Cemetery in Custer.
