Charlene Leslie Zunker, age 66 of Wellston, Michigan (a transplant of Chicago, IL who was living with her family in Yellow Springs, OH) died on Wednesday, the 9th of November at 3:30 pm surrounded by her family. Sons Anthony and Carl, daughter-in-law Kimberly, and most importantly, her granddaughter (and all around favorite person on the planet) Naomi Leslie Zunker were with her.
Char was born on the 13th of July 1950 in Chicago to the late Charles Leslie & Mary Agnes (Pink) Bingham. She wrote a very factual obituary for herself (she had 2 years to arrange most of her affairs), but I honestly don’t want you to remember where she went to high school and where she worked…that’s not who she was. She was a sweet, caring, giving person. She was a devoted mother and friend, and she was quite possibly the World’s greatest nana. She cared more about others than she cared about herself, and was the living embodiment of the golden rule. She battled pancreatic cancer with the same passion she had for her family and friends. The doctors gave her less than one year, but she courageously fought for over two years. When hospice said she only had hours left, she didn’t think that was quite enough time, so she stayed for 6 days…she wasn’t done visiting with her granddaughter yet! Her legacy is her kindness and care for others, which we can only hope to emulate. She taught her boys how to serve in the community through her actions…there is not a charitable agency in Wellston that she was not involved in. She loved working with the elderly, especially at the Peacock Senior Center. She loved Elvis, motorcycles, euchre, music, and vacationing with friends (she always said her trip to Italy was her favorite), but above all else, she lived to help others.
