John Michael Gillis, age 67 of Ludington passed away peacefully on June 21, 2016 at Spectrum Health Ludington.

He was born March 12, 1949 in Ludington to the late John and Olga (Chojnacki) Gillis. John attended Pentwater High School; he then enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. John married Lynda L. Sorensen on February 2, 1976 in Ludington at Bethany Lutheran Church.

John was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Post #76, V.F.W and Moose International. You could always find him fishing, doing lawn care or riding around town in his red truck.

John is survived by his wife; Lynda, daughter; Trisha (Tim) Horling of Coopersville, son; Michael Gillis of Ludington, grandchildren; Allyssa, Isabella, Jasmin, Cassidy and Dawson Gillis, also Katie and Matthew Horling, brother; Ron (Bev) Gillis of Sundance, Wyoming, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister; Maryann Vanderzander and brother; Don Gillis.

A memorial service for John will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 12:00PM at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington with Chaplin Bob Perrin officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 10:00-12:00PM on Wednesday. Burial will take place on Friday July 1, 2016 at 1:00PM at Lakeview Cemetery with Military Honors provided by The American Legion Post #76.
