Catherine Joan Olmstead, 67, of Ludington, died June 8, 2016at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Cathy was born October 30, 1948 in Ludington, and was the daughter of Charles and Margaret Coyle.
Cathy graduated from Ludington High School in 1966 and obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Central Michigan University. She was married to Brian Olmstead for 43 years. Brian passed in 2012.
Cathy was the first grade teacher for Ludington Area Catholic for the past 17 years. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Cathy enjoyed many active pursuits including running, biking and kayaking as well as hiking with her dog Marigold. Cathy had an infectious spirit and her faith was central to the caring and compassion that she showed everyone.
Cathy is survived by daughter, Rebekah Keyser (Michael) of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; sons, Benjamin Olmstead (Elizabeth) of Atlanta, Georgia, Nathan Olmstead (Kirstin) of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Abigail Johnson (Thomas) of Aberdeen, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Kaden, Kalvin and Charles; sisters, Carole Ego (Al) of Baroda, Michigan, Patricia Coyle of Watervliet, Michigan; and brother David Coyle (Linda) of Manistee, Michigan.
A memorial service will be held July 26, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ludington. Memorial contributions in memory of Cathy can be directed to the Missions at Cornerstone Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
