Ruth Margaret (Beach) Selby, 95, Ludington, passed away Monday, May 9 2016, at Oakview Medical Care Facility.
Ruth Margaret Beach was born May 6, 1921 in Paulina Sterns Hospital in Ludington, Michigan to Lowell H. and Clara M. (Knowles) Beach. Ruth grew up in Buttersville on what is now known as S. Lakeshore Drive. She attended the one room Phillips School, except for first and second grade, when she attended Lakeview School in town. At Phillips School she was the only one in her grade and completed third and fourth grade in one year, graduating from Ludington High School in 1938. After graduating from Mason County Normal in 1940 she taught at Eagle school for two years.
While she attended County Normal Ruth met Thomas Edward Selby from Scottville. They were married May 17, 1942 at the Community Church of Ludington. Tom preceded Ruth in death nine months after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Marion Beach Sargent, and one brother Robert K. Beach.
Ruth felt her most important role was that as a wife and mother. She loved to read, was a good cook known for her baking, especially her oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Over the years she served in many different volunteer positions.
After many moves and many years Ruth returned to Ludington in 2005 and spent seven happy years living at The Manor at Sherman Oaks. In 2012 she moved to Oakview Sutter Living Center. Her family would like to thank the staff there for the safe and loving care they provided. In 2015 she transitioned to Oakview Medical Center where they continued to care for her in a loving and competent manner.
Ruth is survived by her children Thomas A. (Ann) Selby of Kingston, MI; Margaret R. (William) Pearson of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Janet E. (Stephen) Marx of Ludington; and David J. (Debbie) Selby of Omaha, NE; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter; a sister-in-law Ann Selby; a dear, lifelong friend, Peg Parrott; and many loving nieces and nephews.
