Karen Elaine  Schaitel (Rockrohr)
Karen Elaine (Rockrohr) Schaitel, age 71 of Scottville passed away peacefully on April 20, 2016 at Spectrum Health Ludington. She was born on April 26, 1944 to the late Lester and Hermine (Grote) Rockrohr in Harvey Illinois. She was 6 days away from turning 72.

Karen attended Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois. She married Leon George-David Schaitel who preceded her in death on December 10, 1987. They married on April 4, 1965 in Chicago, Illinois.

She started her career in the restaurant business as a teenager at White Castle in Illinois and was a great cook/chef for many years before working as an associate and retiring from Walmart in Ludington.

Karen will be remembered for her infectious laugh & smile. For many years she enjoyed sewing & dancing. Later in life she became an avid reader and loved spending time with family. The loves of her life were her grandchildren Austin & Stori, spending time with them was her favorite “hobby”. She was a very giving person.

Karen is survived by her daughter; Diane (Todd) Luft, grandchildren; Austin & Stori Luft, special grandma to Taylor, Jordyn & Erin Luft, Cole Elliotte, Breanna & Seth Parker, Gabe Smith & Kia, step-mother to Cheryl, Cindy & Carol. Called mom by all of Diane’s friends & grandma by her grandchildren’s friends; brothers, John David & Tom Rockrohr, sister; Susan, Mitzie, Donna & Jeanne, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews as well as many family friends.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Edward Rockrohr, Jimmy Rockrohr and Red Rockrohr; nephews Edward Rockrohr and Rusty Rockrohr.

Cremation has taken place and services for Karen will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington at 12:00PM. The family will receive friends for visitation one-hour prior starting at 11:00AM with a luncheon to follow. Karen’s brother Tom Rockrohr will be officiating the service.
