Robert Peter Adams, age 86 of Manistee, Author and Historian, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015
He was born on July 1, 1929 in Filer City, the son of the late Casmer & Martha (Loboda) Adams. Bob attended Manistee High School, graduating in 1947. He was captain of the football team and also an acrobat. After high school, Robert served in the US Naval Reserves. He married Lenore Marie Najdowski on July 25, 1953 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee.
Bob was employed as an engineer by Consumers Power Company, retiring in 1986 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Catholic Community of Manistee (Saint Joseph Church), a founding member of the Manistee Clan Muzzle Loading Club, a teacher who taught mapping at Michigan State University and Native American History to many students in Manistee County Schools. He also made many presentations to many area clubs and service organizations. A researcher of the death site of Father Jacques Marquette, he authored the book “The Thirteenth River”. He also built replica Overpack Wheels for the Manistee County Historical Museum and had written weekly historical articles for the Manistee News Advocate.
Survivors include “His Bride” Lenore Adams of Manistee, two daughters, Lorrie (Stan) Carrier of Manistee and Linda (Myron) Burzynski of Frankfort, 6 grandchildren; Tim Tabaczka, Rachel Revolt, Rebecca Carrier, Randi Hendrickson, Carmen Curiamo, & Sarah Burzynski, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother; Ambrose (Betty) Adams.
A Memorial Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated Monday, November 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Father Peter Wigton celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church Monday morning from 10:00 AM until time of Mass. Interment will be in a personalized urn designed and built by his good friend; John Loubert.
Memorials in Bob’s name may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Michigan Heart Association.
