The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of James Shillinger can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Canoeing in the pool

One of my fondest memories of spending time together with Jim was in 1990 or 1991, while we worked together at Hadley Industries.  We spent numerous trips out of town and on the jobsite around the midwest installing remediation equipment.  Constantine, Michigan was a large project for us, and subsequently we spent weeks at a time downstate installing and operating one of the largest remediation projects during that time.  We worked hard and played hard during our downtime.  During one trip we stayed at a newer Comfort Inn off of I-94, which had nice amenities...including an indoor pool.  After a usual long day on the job, we had dinner and a few drinks, then the crew and bosses decided to mess around in the pool.  Some of us "youngins" on the crew noticed some antique canoes hanging on the walls around the pool area and decided to have some canoe races in the pool late into the night.  Jim and Don, our two crew chiefs, along with about six of us subordinates were taking turns paddling the canoes up and down the pool until the front desk was made aware of our "good time" and put and angry end to our fun.  Always being the diplomat, Jim calmed the manager down, we cleaned and dried the canoes and remounted them up on the walls, and Jim kept us from being booted out of the motel.  Over the last twenty years or so, Jim and I always had a good laugh about that and other "learning opportunities" us youngsters had living on the road together.  Jim will be sadly missed by me and many others, but when the job was difficult or we were nearing a deadline, we always smiled when "It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood" was heard on the job.  God bless you Jim and all the Shillinger Family during this difficult time.  I am so thankful to have friends like you guys.  Sincerely, Steve
