William "Bill" Potton, age 96, passed away in his Manistee home on April 22, 2022, leaving behind his loving wife of 75 years, Joyce and daughter, Janet.
Born in Bedfordshire, England, he served two years in the British Royal Navy at the end of WWII.
He enjoyed playing soccer for several local towns and county as a left winger.
Always bright and meticulous, his career as a service engineer in the broach and machine tool field suited him well. It facilitated the move to the U.S. in 1957, ending with 22 years at Babcock & Wilcox in Rochester, MI. From there he retired to pursue his passion for fishing, bringing him to Manistee to live his best life. As a member of Manistee Elks, he periodically volunteered with his wife and friends in the early years at the Friday night fish fries. Even in later years he could be seen on the dance floor to a record by DJ Dennis.
According to his wishes, no service will be held, and cremation has taken place.
The family has entrusted funeral arrangements with Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Manistee.
