Vincent James Hrachovina, known to family and friends as one of many nicknames - Vince, Vinnie, Rocky or Big Vince, age 79, passed away at his home in Bear Lake, Michigan on September 11, 2026.

 Born on January 6, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Vincent was the son of the late Vincent J. and Helen (Hubona) Hrachovina. He brought a larger-than-life presence to everything he did. His various nicknames reflected the many ways he connected with people—whether through his strength, his warmth, or his unforgettable personality. Growing up, he attended Onekama High School in Onekama, Michigan, where he made lifelong memories before graduating with the Class of 1965.

 A proud veteran, Vincent, served his country in the US Army. While stationed abroad at USAG Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany, he met his beautiful wife, Brigitte. The two were married in Germany in 1970 and spent 39 years together before her passing in 2009. 

Vincent was a gifted mechanic who loved working on cars and possessed an incredible knack for fixing anything with an engine. He spent many years perfecting his trade at Appicelli’s Sales & Service garage in Manistee. Following his time there, Vince took his strong work ethic to Martin Marietta, where he dedicated 35 years of service. He started his career there as a Class A Welder/Mechanic and eventually became a Press Operator before his well-earned retirement in 2009. 

An avid fisherman and hunter, Big Vince was happiest when he was out in nature. One of his greatest joys in life, and a source of immense pride, was passing down this passion to his children, who both share his love for the woods and the water. He loved taking scenic drives down to the lake, specifically back to "The Point" in Onekama. Family and friends could always count on an update from Vince detailing the number of boats on the lake and a full report on exactly how many deer he saw along the way. 

Vince was also incredibly competitive and absolutely loved to play games—but he especially loved to WIN! Whether sitting down for a tight game of pinochle or cribbage, a strategic match of chess, or a lively round of Monopoly, he always played to win, bringing an unforgettable competitive spark to the table. When he was relaxing, he could often be found contentedly working away on his favorite word search puzzles. 

Above all, Vincent was a devoted grandfather who loved his family fiercely. Known fondly to his grandchildren as Papa or Poppie, he left behind a rich legacy through his children and grandchildren, all of whom he loved with all his heart. He is survived by his daughter, Natalie (Sandborn), and her partner Loren Gracer; his son, Lawrence, and his wife Chelle (Johnson) Hrachovina; and his five cherished grandchildren: Olivia & Reese Sandborn and Sydney, Maegan, & Ryan Hrachovina. He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Helen, his wife Brigitte, and his brother John.

 The family will be holding a private celebration of life to honor Vincent's legacy and memories.
