Valoyce (Val) Anita Dean, age 83 of Manistee died Saturday, May 16, 2026 at The Maples – Benzie County Medical Care Facility in Frankfort.
She was born on June 22, 1942 in Muskegon, Michigan the daughter of the late Chester & Theola M. (Crankshaw) Lattin. In 1969 she met Major Wilson "Bill" Dean. They were married in a blizzard on January 16, 1971 at Bethany Reformed Church in Kalamazoo by Bill's cousin Reverend Dean Bailey. In 2002 they moved to Manistee to retire and become active in the community. Val was involved with the Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce Promoters. They spent 48 years living, loving, laughing, sharing ups and downs, and making memories together. Bill preceded her in death on June 18, 2019.
Survivors include one step-daughter; Dawn Bach and other family members.
No services are planned. Interment will be with her husband Bill in the Veterans Section of Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
