Obituary

Timothy Lee Marquand, age 67 of Manistee, passed away July 22, 2025, peacefully in his home surrounded by family.

He was born on November 23, 1957, in Manistee, MI to the late Duane & Phyllis (Smogoleski) Marquand. He was a 1975 graduate of Manistee High School. On October 24, 1981, he married Mary L. Theisen in Houston, TX.

Tim was a prominent member of the community here in Manistee. For 30+ he owned and operated a local business called "Glass Specialties, Inc.", providing for the various window, door, and even niche glass needs for Manistee and the surrounding areas. This business and his dedication to quality earned him the nickname "The Glassman".

Tim was anything but made of glass though. He was as tough as the oak he loved to use in his woodworking, while still being capable of being gentle like the flowers that he enjoyed growing in his garden and around his home. Few people got to see his gentler side, but those closest to him know well that this man had a big, kind heart, and was always willing to lend a hand or help someone out.

Tim's loved ones would often enjoy meals with him, which would typically revolve around one of his signature dishes, such as sour cream and noodles, boiled dinner, French toast (grandpa toast as his grandchildren call it), steaks on his Weber grill, cornish hens, or just making chocolate chip cookies as a family.

Tim had a passion for hunting and fishing. In the springtime you could find him on the water fishing for bluegill at his honey hole. From October 1st until January 1st, you would find him in the woods hunting for deer from his deer blind that he built. However, his passion for animals was not limited to hunting and fishing. Tim honored his father's tradition of putting up gourds and houses for the purple martins to nest in. The community enjoyed the spectacle of purple martins nesting that Tim ushered in year after year for over 30 years. He would make beautiful bird feeders and houses, and enjoyed watching all of the various types of birds that would frequent his home. He also loved German Shepherds. Over the years, his dogs were always a testament to his exceptional ability to train and care for them.

When he wasn't with his family or tending to one of his hobbies, he was likely watching a sports game. In spring and summer, it was the Detroit Tigers, in the fall and winter it was the Detroit Lions. Friends would come over and watch with him, or call to talk about how great or terrible the game was going.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Duane & Phyllis Marquand, brother; Kenneth Marquand, brother-in-law; Fay LaGuire, best friend; Pat Rybicki, and beloved dog; Buddy.

He is survived by his devoted companion; Chip, his three children; Elizabeth Marquand (David Burns), Felicia Marquand (Julian Dorris), and James Marquand, six grandchildren; Dia, Lilith, Freya, Genevieve, Theodore, and Beatrix, sister; Terri LaGuire, and best friends; Steve (Kathleen) Schmeling, Todd & Jan (Krusniak) Erickson, Dennis Daniels, and Rae (Grenell) Fournier.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will follow from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the Filer Township Recreation Hall 1306 Oak Drive, Manistee. Friends and family are welcome. Come celebrate his life, enjoy some food, dress casual, and BYOB, as Tim would've wanted a party.
