Obituary

Timothy Shawn Fogarty, 59, of Onekama, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on January 16, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family.

Tim was born on September 9, 1966, in Detroit, Michigan, to Kathleen Meister and the late James Fogarty. He was warmly welcomed by his three older siblings. From a young age, Tim's humor and adventurous spirit were evident in his love of hockey, riding his bike, and seeking out daring adventures. He worked as a paperboy and held various restaurant jobs, and in high school, he developed a strong dedication to weightlifting, an achievement that led him to set a record that still stands at John Glenn High School in Westland.

Tim married the love of his life, Laura Lee Linton, on June 11, 1988. The love they shared, from childhood through a lifetime together, is something truly rare and beautiful. That kind of love doesn't end; it lives on through their boys and grandchildren. Together, they began building their family while Tim attended Schoolcraft College, where he earned an associate's degree in business management and accounting. In 1994, Tim and Laura moved "up north" with their two young sons, Luke and Tyler, and later welcomed their youngest son Logan, in 1995. This new chapter as owners of Manistee Ace Hardware was the start of their career together.

Tim was known not only for his knowledge and strong work ethic, but also for his genuine care for people. Whether helping a customer take on a project or greeting a familiar face, he believed in helping others. His steady faith in Jesus guided the way he lived and served others, and he believed faith was something to be shared with those around him. Tim was active in his community, serving on the Filer Township DDA board and was a member of the leadership team at Bridges Church of Manistee. After selling Ace Hardware in 2016, Tim continued sharing his friendly presence while working for The Hillman Group, servicing hardware stores across northern Michigan.

Tim was also known for his love of the outdoors. He looked forward to every fall spent deer hunting on his property and traveling west chasing elk and other big game with a bow in his hand, as well as spring walleye fishing off the pier. Many summers were spent with Laura and their boys renting a cabin in Canada, fishing at Dog Lake. In most recent years, he and his dog, Lincoln, became certified with the United Blood Trackers to help fellow hunters track deer. He proudly shared this love of the outdoors with his three sons, all of whom are avid outdoorsmen today.

Tim's greatest joy was being "Papa" to his six grandchildren, who brought endless laughter and light to his life. From catching frogs in the pond and riding in the side by side, to coming up with clever pranks and making giant cardboard forts with glow lights, Papa was a memory maker whose presence brought equal joy to his grandchildren.

Tim will be remembered for his love for Jesus, steady presence, generous spirit, charm, and wit. His faith remained a constant source of strength throughout his life and was reflected in the way he loved and served others. He lived a life grounded in faith, hard work, and appreciation for every day he was given. While his absence will be deeply felt, we are grateful for the many memories he leaves behind and the life he so well lived.

Tim is survived by his wife, Laura Fogarty; his three sons, Timothy "Luke" (Renae) Fogarty, Tyler (Chrissy) Fogarty, and Logan Fogarty; his six grandchildren, Ben, Jack, Hadley, Willah, Beau and Brynlee; his mother, Kathleen, and Harlen Meister; his siblings, Jim (Cheryl) Fogarty, Colleen (Bill) Quintal, and Sheryl Fogarty; and many nieces and nephews. Tim was preceded in death by his father, James Fogarty, and his in-laws Ronald and Barbara Linton.
