Obituary

Tammy Lynn Gumieny, 56, of Manistee, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 25, 2026. Her loss came far too soon, and she leaves behind a family who loved her dearly.

Tammy was born on February 5, 1970, in Manistee, the oldest child of Gerald and Sally (Kraus) Gumieny. Manistee was home from the very beginning. She grew up there with her younger brother, Jeremy, attended Manistee High School, and built her life in the town she knew best.

Tammy spent her working life in food service, taking care of people one order at a time. She worked at the Old Hamlin in Ludington and at Orchard Market, then spent more than a decade at Five Guys in Muskegon, where she was proud to be part of the opening crew. Hers was the familiar face that coworkers counted on and customers looked for when they came through the door. Taking care of people was what she did best, and that life of service carried through to everything she did.

At home, Tammy took care of the people who had first taken care of her. She was the primary caregiver for her parents, Gerald and Sally, returning the same love and care they had given her growing up.

Tammy was a homebody at heart who found her happiness in simple things. She was a regular at the library, a devoted reader of Stephen King and Dean Koontz, and never without a hot cup of coffee with French vanilla creamer. She loved country music, University of Michigan football and the Detroit Lions. Her cat never wanted for anything and was spoiled without apology.

Above all, Tammy loved being a grandma. Brennan, Claire, Haily, Ellis, and Miles were her greatest joy, and she was always the first one there whenever her family needed a hand.

True to a life spent caring for others, Tammy gave one final gift as an organ donor. Through her generosity, other families will be given more time with the people they love, the very thing she treasured most. It was a moment of love and pride that her family will always hold close.

Tammy will be deeply missed by her parents, Gerald and Sally Gumieny of Manistee; her daughter, Amber (Cory) Johnson of Bangor; her brother, Jeremy (Michelle) Gumieny of Midland; her grandchildren, Brennan Gutowski, Claire Gutowski, Haily Gutowski, Ellis Johnson, and Miles Johnson; and her nephew, Joshua Gumieny.

A celebration of Tammy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, at Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 309 W. Parkdale Avenue, Manistee, with visitation beginning at noon. Celebrant Michelle Sponseller will officiate. Family and friends are warmly invited to stay and share a meal together at American Legion Post 10, 10 Mason Street, Manistee, following the service.
