Obituary

Stephen E. Fry, age 82 of Grand Rapids, formerly of Onekama, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday June 9, 2023, at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods near Grand Rapids.

He was born on August 25, 1940, in Dayton, OH, the son of the late Millard E. & June (Langebrake) Fry. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from UCLA. He also served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army. On June 10, 1963, he married Susan "Sue" Starick in Dayton, Ohio whom he had met in high school.

Steve was employed as a business planner in the aerospace industry, having been employed most recently at Smiths Industries in Grand Rapids. Upon retirement in 2000, they retired to Tucson, Arizona where they lived for 16 years. Over the years, Steve and Sue have relocated numerous times within 7 different states.

He attended Faith Covenant Church in Manistee and was involved with a number of Christian Ministries. He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at the University of Cincinnati and the Strategic Leadership Forum. In 1966, he qualified for a European Economic Study award trip where Sue joined him later. He and Sue had traveled to all 50 states and 7 countries together. They enjoyed lake sports, biking, camping, traveling, playing tennis, skiing, and spoiling their 14-year-old dog, Joy, who misses him very much.

He loved classical music and for 20 years he served as an usher at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Steve also sang in several church choirs.

Survivors include his wife Susan Fry; his two sons Kent C. (Melissa Boyle) Fry of Durango, Colorado, and Keith A. (Tracey Nawrot) Fry of Rochester Hills, Michigan; twin grandchildren Alexander James and Cecelia Irene Fry also of Rochester Hills; brother-in-law Robert "Bob" (Mary) Starick of Mount Dora, Florida; sister-in-law Martha Starick of Highland Ranch, Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marianna Weidner and brother-in-law William "Bill" Starick.

Private Family Memorial Services will take place at the family cottage in Onekama the last week of July with Pastor Erik Carlson officiating.

Memorials in Steve's name may be directed to Faith Covenant Church Missions, Our Daily Bread (formerly Radio Bible Class), Benevolent Fund for Covenant Living, Mercy Ships (Ukraine), or to a charity of your choosing.
