Shirley Rose McDougall, age 100 of Manistee, passed away in the comfort of her home on Wednesday January 8, 2025.
She was born on February 26, 1924, in Royal Oak, Michigan, the daughter of the late Carl and Josephine (Zosczak) Anderson. Shirley was married to James McDougall, and they shared many years together before he passed on March 30, 1995.
Shirley had many different jobs throughout her working career. She helped make parts for the B17 Bombers in World War II, was a beautician, a nurse's assistant and a phlebotomist at West Shore Hospital in Manistee. She also worked at Michigan Works in her 80's.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Shirley found joy in many things including playing the guitar, the piano, and singing, which she also did with the Sweet Adelines. Above all else, Shirley loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children Connie McDougall, Sharon Lapp, Bonnie Bryson Lill, and Gary McDougall; grandchildren Sara Froncek, Becca Ketz, Andrew Froncek, Chris Rogers and many more; great-grandchildren Matthew, Madison, Willow, Jericho, and Maverick; brother Glen Anderson; and numerous other family and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her son Jimmy McDougall and siblings Arine Anderson, Geri Paxton, Eugene Anderson, and Arvella Anderson.
A Celebration of Life for Shirley will be held on Sunday January 26, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee, with Pastor Dan Barkholz officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
