Shirley (Knaffle) Jankowiak, aged 96, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2024 at her home after a long battle with dementia.
She was born on March 3, 1927 in Cheboygan, Michigan to Carl and Harriett (Lockey) Knaffle. She was a proud resident of Manistee, Michigan and a 1945 graduate of Manistee High School. She married Peter Jankowiak on March 17, 1961 in Pontiac, Michigan.
Shirley worked for Michigan State University as a young lady and never lost her love for The Spartans. Upon returning to Manistee, she worked for the Water Department, Polk Directories, and many years as Financial Secretary at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Shirley loved spending time with family, traveling to visit her kids, and yearly trips to Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland. She always loved when friends and family came to visit her and had a way of charming everyone who helped take care of her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Peter, daughter Karen Tomaszewski, sister Dorothy Fredrickson and brother Edmund Knaffle.
She is always near, still loved, still missed and very dear. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Kathy and Tom Contreras, Kris and Joe Randall and Kelly and John Funderburg, daughter, Kim Jankowiak, son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Connie Jankowiak and son-in-law Dennis Tomaszewski; grandchildren Jason and Lindsey Tomaszewski, Abby Tomaszewski and Jon Radovich, Alysa Hansen, Logan and Trevor Miller, Sarah and Taylor Fly, Alex Funderburg, Ben Tomaszewski, and Meredith Funderburg; and great grandchildren, Hannah and Jillian Tomaszewski, Brooks and Blake Fly, Emmett Miller, and Stella and Hazel Radovich, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to visit with the family at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on January 27, 2024 at 10:00 am with Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Michigan in Shirley's memory.
