Roger Stephen "Big Rodge" Kaminski, age 78 of Manistee, peacefully passed away, due to congestive heart failure which he battled for many years, on Saturday August 26, 2023.
Roger was born on September 12, 1944, in Ludington, Michigan, the son of the late Stephen and Marjorie (Fortin) Kaminski.
He was employed at Packaging Corporation of America for 41 years in Waste Management until he retired in 2007.
Roger had a love for the outdoors; fishing was his favorite. You could find Rog any place that had water tossing his line in. If you couldn't find him fishing, just drive down to Riley's Tackle Shop and there he was talking about fish amongst other subjects.
Roger also enjoyed hunting, gardening, camping, walking trails, photography (which are displayed in many homes and businesses), playing cards, caring for all cats including the two he had at home which he loved very much. Roger also loved Halloween; he would buy the huge candy bars and pass them out to the children. He loved seeing their faces when he'd handed one over to them. Roger also loved his Pepsi.
It wasn't often that you would catch Roger without his baseball cap and his sunglasses on; even inside the buildings, he'd leave them on. Roger was very proud of his Polish heritage and enjoyed participating and going to his yearly family reunions where he recently attended one with his daughter Lisa.
Roger was the oldest of 12 kids, the Monarch. Roger, fondly known as Grandpa Roger, was loved by a very special girl, Kaydance Stultz.
Roger is survived by his two children Lisa Reese of Mason County and Roger Kaminski, Jr. of Manistee; his loving granddaughter Allison Anderson of Manistee; siblings Jeannie Nowak, Donald Kaminski, Alan Kaminski, and Robert "Paco" Kaminski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his siblings Phillip Kaminski, Ronald Kaminski, Carol (Chiefy) Kaminski, Sue Magmer, Linda Petersen, and Stephen Kaminski.
A Service for Roger will be held on September 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Pastor Joyce Newman of River of Life Ministries in Manistee will be officiating the service.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Manistee County Sport Fishing Association which promotes the sport of fishing. It will be a donation to the Kids Fish Day for 2024. Keep Roger's legacy of love for fishing going.
