Richard Warren Schoenberger, age 77 of Manistee, died Monday, October 30, 2023, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan.

He was born on May 9, 1946, in Alameda, California, the son of the late Howard R. & Dorothy L. (Gardner) Schoenberger. He was a graduate of Walled Lake High School. On October 23, 1998, he married Kathy L. Vanderlaan in Jamaica.

Dick was a Michigan State Police Trooper for 25 years retiring on January 1, 1994, as Commander of the Manistee Post. He was also owner/operator of Duchon Travel for ten years.

He was a member of the Manistee United Methodist Church, Manistee Rotary, and Manistee Elks Lodge #250. He was a fisherman who enjoyed mentoring young fisherman. He also was a sports enthusiast, dog lover, and loved to travel.

Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years; Kathy, sons Rob Schoenberger of Saline, MI, Todd (Erica) Schoenberger of Phoenix, AZ and their children Tashi & Hudson, and Arvid (Angela) Johnson of Grand Haven, MI, daughter; Analise Johnson of Ferndale, Michigan, and two siblings.

He was also preceded in death by four siblings.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Manistee United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Barkholz officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM and again Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

Memorials in Dick's name may be directed to the DAV Chapter #43 Van Transportation Fund for which he was a longtime driver, or Homeward Bound Animal Shelter.
