Obituary

On November 30, 2023, Pamela Jane "Pam" Cronenwett, beloved mother of two, passed away peacefully in Manistee, MI, at age 82. Pam was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, who passed four years ago.

Pam was born to Richard and Rosemary McClure, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she grew up the oldest of three children and graduated from Roosevelt School in 1959.

In 1967, Pam and Jim married at Holy Trinity Chapel, on the campus where they met. The pair first caught each other's eye in computer class at Eastern Michigan University, where Pam earned her Bachelor of Science degree. Together they raised a son, Tom, and a daughter, Mel, in Dearborn Heights.

Having been a Girl Scout herself, Pam took active roles in her children's Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. She instilled a love of reading in both children, and, as a former lifeguard, ensured they were confident swimmers.

Through employment and volunteer work, Pam truly led a life of service. Her leadership roles often utilized her math degree, sense of organization, and social nature. Many of her efforts focused on education, as well as supporting women, local arts, and communities.

While in Dearborn Heights, Pam worked as Area Program Director for the YWCA of Western Wayne County and as Assessment Specialist at Henry Ford Community College. She continued active involvement with her sorority, Delta Zeta, by serving on several committees, as well as holding the respective offices of State Alumnae Director, National Treasurer, and National VP of Alumni Affairs.

After retiring, Pam embraced the community in her new hometown of Manistee. She volunteered as a bookkeeper for United Way and helped run the box office at the Ramsdell Theatre. As a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, she was crew qualified and held offices in the local Flotilla and Division, notably serving as Division 31 Finance Officer from 2006-2020.

At the time of her passing, Pam held editorial and committee positions as a long-standing member respectively in the Ludington Area Branch of AAUW and the Manistee Chapter of P.E.O. She joined AAUW in 1975 and having served as Treasurer and President of the Dearborn Branch, maintained membership on both sides of the state. She became a P.E.O. member in 2003 and held office as Chapter DA President for two separate terms.

Pam was equally passionate about her hobbies. She decorated the family home and gifted loved ones with her own colorful handwork, intricate quilts, and cross-stitch. In addition, she charted her family genealogies and passed along her love of Mah Jongg by hosting games and teaching novices to play.

Pam was preceded in death by her mother, her father, and her husband. She is survived by her two children, sister Penny McClure (Everett, WA), brother Tom McClure (Pawtucket, RI), a nephew, and a niece.

Memorial contributions in Pam's name may be made to any of the aforementioned service groups and philanthropies, as well as Gallaudet University and Hospice of Michigan.
