Nancy Lee Riewe, 63, passed away peacefully in the early morning of September 6, 2023 after having bravely battled lung cancer for the last three years. Nancy was born in Onekama, Michigan on May 8, 1960. Nancy spent much of her adult life in Royal Oak, MI, before returning to northern Michigan.
Nancy's heart belonged to her children, Rachael McWain-Malik and her husband Sam Malik, of Fairfax, Virginia and her son Steve McWain Jr of Eastpointe, MI. And her cherished grandkids, Angel, Samara and Azzan. Nancy is also survived by her siblings Richard Riewe of Kaleva, Elizabeth Riewe-Leatherman of Scottville, and Patricia Riewe-Card-Chavez and her husband Oscar Chavez of Georgia. Nancy was preceded in death by her oldest sister, Lottie Mae Clevenger-Hoffman-Cole. And, earlier this year, by her younger brother, Gary Riewe of Manistee, MI.
Those who knew Nancy well, knew she was an angel. Albeit feisty. But that was what endeared her to all those who met her. Here final months allowed her the time to resolve all matters. And when asked if she'd have it any other way she simply replied, "No." Although the time she had was painful and difficult, it allowed her to help others adjust and heal and move forward. Which embodies Nancy well; more concerned about others than she was herself.
Nancy loved to laugh. She also loved music and was notorious for listening to old school rap at deafening levels. But she liked it that way. She liked to feel the music, she said. Nancy was intuitive. And loved to sit with her Angels. She was an eclectic mixture that kept everyone on their toes. Even during her final days, she would wake and give thanks for the day. Even though she admitted to not being okay with things, she had the strength to find value in being allowed each sunrise.
Those who loved her will forever have a vacancy within their heart; a space once filled with her loving gestures, wit, and kindness. But now she is free. And, we believe, reunited with her sister, with whom she missed so deeply. And because of that, we too have peace.
To celebrate her life, Nancy requested an informal get together. A time of laughter and remembrance to be held at the Maple Grove Township Community Center, located at 9208 Kauko St, Kaleva, MI, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on September 16, 2023.
