Obituary

Michael Roy Pearson, age 67 of Irons, Michigan passed away June 5, 2024, at Metro Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Mike was born November 24, 1956, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Robert Pearson and Bernice Frances Pearson (Bielecki). He graduated from Rogers High School, Wyoming, Michigan 1974.

Mike married Loretta B. Kremer (Nee Hidy) on April 29, 2001, at Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. Their dear friends, Dr. Phillip Johnson and Rev. Melody Johnson performed the ceremony.

Mike worked for 28 years with Hagar Wood Treatment in Wyoming, Michigan. It was a job he enjoyed very much until they went out of business in June of 2009. Soon after, Mike started at Gilson Graphics in Grand Rapids as a shift leader in the packaging department. He fully retired in 2018 after he and Loretta built their retirement home in Irons, Michigan.

As a Member of Faith Fellowship Church in Irons, Mike served as an usher, a member of "counting team" at church, as well as other groups. Mike treasured the morning breakfasts seven days a week at local restaurants with his group of retired Christian "guys". It was the highlight of every day!

He was a long-time member of the Kent County Conservation League (KCCL), a non-profit organization in Ada, Michigan. He was also a long-time member of the National Rifle Association and just received recognition for 20 years of support for the Wounded Warrior Project

Mike was an accomplished firearms expert. After moving to Irons, he enjoyed times with other like-minded friends. He was not an avid hunter, he preferred training others of all ages in gun safety and marksmanship for responsible competitions. He was a long-time member and multiple record holder at Kent County Conservation League, KCCL, participating in many leagues there and at times serving as range master. He trained many friends and family members in trap, skeet, 5-stand, and sporting clays, and other events. Mike also worked part-time as a gunsmith, mostly for fun, at a local Grand Rapids sporting goods shop.

Mike was a very down to earth guy, unapologetically blue-collar. He is remembered as a wonderful husband to Loretta. Their formal Christian wedding vows to each other included a few unique lines, "I promise to be your comrade in adventure, your student and your teacher, and your accomplice in mischief." They always appeared to have fun together.

He was also a protector, guide and helper to their family, his dear friends, and very kind to individuals he had not yet met when their need was immediate or great. He dearly loved his Basset Hounds throughout his life and thought of them as family.

He is survived by his mother Bernice Pearson; brothers Lynnwood (Tammy) Pearson and Tom (Debbie) Pearson; Nieces and nephews Justin and Amber, Michelle and Dan; wife Loretta B. Kremer-Pearson; stepdaughter Rebecca (Steven) Dutcher; stepson William H. (Rachel) Kremer, II; grandchildren Max (Megan) Dutcher, Brett Dutcher, Tony Rodriguez, Shala (Chase) Langerhorst, Sidney Kremer; and great-grandson Roman Lucas Rodriguez.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Robert Pearson and best friend, Steven E. Kremer.

The funeral will take place Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Faith Fellowship Church, 8889 W. Six Mile Road, Irons, MI with (friend and) Pastor Earnest Wagner officiating. Visitation with family is from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will be served for all at the church Family Center following the service.

Final Disposition will occur at a future date at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
