Merle John Steffes, 92, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026. He was born April 8, 1934, in Allegan, the son of Wheeler and Clara (Hayes) Steffes.

On July 17, 1953, Merle married the love of his life, Barbara Jean, and together they shared 68 loving years together before her passing in 2022.

Merle is survived by: his children, Tom Steffes, Tracy (Sonny) Loper, and Rosemary Flowers; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Neva Johnson

Merle was preceded in death by: his wife, Barbara Jean Steffes; daughter, Sue Rooney; daughter-in-law, Lynn; and grandchildren, Justin and Sadie.

In accordance with Merle’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and the family will have private services.
