Melinda Fae Foster, 62, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025. She was born on June 27, 1963, the daughter of George and Flora (Gonser) Gilbert, in Manistee, Michigan.
A 1981 graduate of Manistee High School, Melinda proudly served her country in the United States Navy. Her time in the service gave her more than a sense of purpose – it gave her lifelong friendships and cherished memories and it's where she met her husband, Roy Foster.
Though her path was not always smooth, it was uniquely hers. She walked her path with resilience and with a heart that never stopped seeking connection. She was a loyal friend to many. Her kind spirit extended not only to people but to the animals she adored, especially her dogs.
Melinda found joy in the simple things – cheering for her beloved Seattle Seahawks football team, cooking for her friends and family, and crafting with her friends. Though gone too soon, she leaves behind a legacy of grit, resilience, kindness, and love.
Melinda is survived by her children, Michael (Valentina) Jordan and Shelby (Mark Kane) Jordan; mother, Flora Gilbert; sisters, Kristen (Bob) Altermatt and Becky (Dan) Flaherty; niece and nephews, Kyle and Jamie Altermatt and Colin Flaherty; and her beloved dog, Scrappy Doo. Aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Melinda was preceded in death by her husband Roy, in 1991 and her father George, in 2003.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life with military honors will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday July 31, at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee. Visitation will be from 1:00PM until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Melinda's memory to Disabled American Veterans—a cause close to her heart.
