On Wednesday, September 2nd 2026, Mary Ann Smith was called home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While her family is heartbroken by her passing, they find comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain and has been reunited with her beloved husband, Marvin Paul Smith. Mary is survived by her sons Dale (Cleo) Smith of Manistee, Jeff (Cheryl) Smith of Manistee and Scott Smith of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren Jessica (Chad) Videtich, Shannon Smith, Chris (Laura) Smith, Samantha Smith, Cameron (MacKenzie) Smith, Conor Smith, Anna (Brady) Weston, Morgan Smith and Zoey Smith; her legacy continues through her cherished great-grandchildren Zada, Stella, Maxwell, Sylva, Elizabeth and Rhett; her seventh expected to arrive in December. Surviving her also is her sister Kathleen Block.

Born in 1942 on Christmas Eve, Mary's birthday became a beloved family tradition. Her home would fill with loved ones each year as family gathered to celebrate both her special day and the Christmas season. These gatherings reflected the warmth, hospitality, and love that defined Mary's life.

She married the love of her life, Marvin Paul Smith on May 4th, 1959 in Manistee where they spent the remainder of their married life. He preceded her in death February 24th, 2002.

Mary was employed at a number of local businesses throughout the years, including the Glen of Michigan, Eberhard’s Food Store, Jay’s Shop-Rite and Filer Credit Union. At the credit union she spent six years as a teller, retiring in October of 2002.

Mary was an extraordinary woman whose kindness, strength, and generosity touched countless lives. She had a huge heart and a gift for listening, making everyone feel welcomed, understood, and loved. Whether offering advice, a listening ear, or words of encouragement. Mary was a people person, some would call her a “social butterfly”. She enjoyed being with people and getting to know them. If ever she was in a place she didn’t know a familiar face she would make a friend or simply people watch. She extended grace and love to all she encountered and always spoke with thoughtful eloquence.

A woman of deep faith, Mary was a devoted member of Manistee Assembly of God. She lived a fulfilled life, founded on faith and she made it a goal to share the Word of God with all that she could, especially her family. Her knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Lord and his word was magnificent.  Her faith guided her throughout her life and was reflected in the compassion, grace, and love she showed to family, friends, and all who knew her.

After the passing of her husband, Mary continued to live a full and vibrant life as a strong and independent woman.  She especially cherished traveling the world with her sister, Kathleen "Kathy", and Kathy's husband Gary.  Together they shared unforgettable adventures, countless laughs, and memories that Mary treasured throughout her life.

More than anything, Mary loved spending time with those closest to her. She enjoyed slow mornings with a cup of coffee surrounded by family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and conversation. She was happiest when her home was filled with loved ones and always made sure there was a sweet treat waiting to share.

Mary had a sense of humor and everyone who knew her could tell you this. Until the end, she kept that spunk with her.

Above everything else, Mary loved her family and that was what was most important. She enjoyed vacationing, sporting events, playing games, building puzzles, holiday celebrations and “just because” family gatherings.

Mary will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her strength and independence, her warm heart, and the love she shared so freely with others. She leaves behind a family who adored her, friends who treasured her, and countless memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles for years to come.

A visitation with be held at Manistee Assembly of God on Saturday, September 12th, 2026 at 11:00am, followed by a memorial service at noon with Pastor Terry Vandercook officiating. All attending are welcomed for fellowship and luncheon after the service. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
