Mary Jane DeCender, age 92, passed away on Friday March 11, 2022, at Maple Ridge Manor Assisted Living in Manistee, Michigan.
She was born on May 7, 1929, in Detroit to the late Frank and Martha (Bolter) Smith. She married Ralph DeCender on April 21, 1951. She enjoyed golfing with her husband of 44 years. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1995.
Mary was a member of the Christian service commission at her church, St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed sewing, crafting, and owning her own floral shop. She sewed vests and knitted hats for the premature babies at the hospital.
She is survived by her children Cheryl (Don) Biganeiss, Kim (Richard) Decker, David DeCender, Linda (Blair) Schultz, Susan DeCender, and Kevin DeCender; grandchildren Megan (John) Fitzgerald, David Biganeiss, Natalie Decker, Leslie Schultz, Daniel Schultz, Jennifer Schultz, Pierce DeCender, Karina DeCender, and R.J. DeCender.
Mary was preceded in death by her sisters Audrey Wezalis, Shirley Taggart, and JoAnn Radican.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday March 31, 2022, at 10:30 AM at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church with Reverend David Cybulski officiating.
She will be laid to rest with her late husband, Ralph, at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan or St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church or School.
