Marjorie D. Johnson, 97, of Manistee, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
She was born April 9, 1928 in Wallace, Michigan, the daughter of Arvid and Karen "Carrie" (Nelson) Krantz. Marge attended Michigan State University on a 4H Scholarship she earned raising chickens and the University of Michigan where she met her future husband, Warren C. Johnson. She graduated from the University of Michigan nursing school and married Warren on December 19, 1953.
Marge was a cheerful and positive person who lived a life of service to her family, to her church and to her community. She was a volunteer nurse for Hospice of Michigan, a tutor for Project Read, as well as a cub scout, boy and girl scout leader. She was a member of the Lakeside Club and made quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Marge was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years, was the first woman president of the church council, served on Altar Guild and the quilting group and many other committees in her years there. She was active in the Chamber of Commerce and was the Grand Marshall of Manistee's Fourth of July Parade at the age of 90. She could be seen walking the mile round trip from her home to the corner of Cherry Road and First Street every day until she was 95. She was seen at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays for Sit and Fit up until the day she died. When asked how she was able to live for so long she was known to say, "You've got to keep moving to keep moving."
Marge is survived by her children and spouses, David & Susan Johnson of Manistee, Martha & Lindsay Davis of Trenton, James Johnson of Manistee, Kari & James Stuck of Manistee and Christine & Carl McKee of Manistee; 13 grandchildren, Meghan (Ryan) Akers, Joshua (Prital) Johnson, Benjamin (Ashley) Johnson, Rebecca Johnson, Essen (Nichole) Davis, Marna (Ashley) Ball, Maegan (Brandon) Drake, Janna (Evan) Roze, Arvid (Angela) Johnson, Analise Johnson, Hannah, Joseph, and Sarah Stuck; 14 great grandchildren, Hayden and Kaeli Davis, Ty and Maya Drake, Lincoln Roze and Remy Ball, Elisabeth, Caleb, Lara, Hans and Fritz Akers, Eliana and Mary Sue Johnson and Theo Johnson.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Warren, an infant daughter, Lisa, her sister, Carol Krantz and brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth (Betty) Krantz.
A service for Marge will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, June 29 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manistee with the Rev. Craig Abee officiating. Final interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee. The family will receive friends at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church beginning at 2:00pm on June 29th prior to the service. The family requests that those wishing to remember Marge consider a gift in her memory to Interlochen Public Radio or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
