Obituary

Lois Ann Lumbert, formerly of Traverse City, MI, went home to be with the Lord on October 23, 2026. Lois was born on August 20, 1940, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, in her grandparents’ log cabin, to Nellie M. Burton. Her father was Millard Young. Lois married Ivan “Buck” Lumbert on July 7, 1956, in Springfield, MO. They traveled to Northern Michigan, where Lois, at age fifteen, began her life as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Lois had a heart for people. She loved to be with others and was the perfect hostess. Her face beamed with a smile that showed she genuinely cared for those around her. Always concerned for others' well-being, she made sure the coffee cup was filled, the second serving was given, and her smile and hugs were shared to ensure each recipient knew the love she felt in her heart.

While she occasionally worked in retail, her primary focus was as a homemaker during her almost seventy years of marriage. Her modest home was always spotless, and she was delighted in making it comfortable and cozy. She loved sitting with a hot cup of tea and enjoying God’s creation outside the window. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidery, reading, and making music. Over the years, her creative spirit flowed through oil painting, drawing, gardening, preserving foods, doll making, clogging, jewelry making, and other crafty hobbies. She knew how to make something beautiful out of nothing. She made over a thousand handmade quilts. Lois also babysat for an endless number of children whom she loved as her own. Nothing was beyond Lois’s reach. She wasn’t afraid to try anything, create something, explore new adventures, or share her world with others.

Lois taught herself to play the piano and accordion, then the autoharp, mandolin, and fiddle. She had an angelic voice and loved to sing folk music. She and Buck spent many years playing music with their friends and traveling to festivals to sit together and make music. Music seeped into her spirit and shaped every part of her life. She was either singing, humming, learning to play, or listening to music.

Her greatest loves were Buck, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had many friends and relatives she stayed close with. Her closest friend, Jane, shared many of her same interests for almost fifty years. She loved the Lord with all her heart. In her last days, she made two statements. First, she said she was in God’s hands. Second, she said she had tried to put her kids in God’s hands as soon as she could after they were born, which she accomplished.

She is survived by: her daughters, Donna Ray and Debra (Mark) MacEachern; three grandchildren, Amy MacEachern, Rebecca (Jeremy) Maue, and Kyle (Kiowa) Ray; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Maue and Kylyn Ray.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ivan “Buck” Lumbert; her son, Danny Lumbert; and her parents and siblings.

Donations can be made in her name to The Gathering Place, Benzie Senior Resources, 10542 Main Street, Honor, MI 49640.
