Lawrence Joseph "L.J." Greiner, Jr., age 67 of Manistee passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday May 18, 2025, at home after a long-fought battle with cancer and his wife Mary by his side.
L.J. was born on June 15, 1957, in Hart, MI, son of the late Lawrence Joseph Greiner, Sr. and Donna Jean (St. John) Fortin. L.J. attended Onekama High School, graduating with the class of 1975. He then attended CMU and davenport College. After a short time in college, L.J. joined the Ironworkers Local #340, becoming a full J.I.W. in 1981. He retired in 2015 after 34 years.
L.J. married Mary (Popkowski) Kieszkowski on March 31st, 2000. L.J. enjoyed shooting pool and golfing at Manistee Golf and Country Club. He could also be seen at the Northside Bar tipping a few. L.J. was a huge fan of the Michigan Wolverines "Go Blue" and Detroit Lions and Tigers. He loved his month of February in Venice, FL and the many friends he met there.
L.J. is survived by his wife, Mary Greiner, Ryan and Eric Kieszkowski who he thought of as his sons; grandchildren Annabelle, Cade, Phin, Reid, Mallory and Sawyer Kieszkowski; 3 brothers Roger, Gordi and Raymond Greiner; sisters-in-law Connie Greiner and Chrysan Popkowski; brothers-in-law Jerome and Michael Popkowski; nephews Keith Edmondson, Jr., Austin Greiner, Roger David Greiner and Craig and Bradlee Popkowski; nieces, Tricia Edmondson, Jackie Klajda, and Terri Greiner; and special friends, Mickey Finan, Jr., Keith Edmondson, Sr., and Gerry Matthews.
A Celebration of Life Gathering for L.J. will be held on Thursday May 22, 2025, from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of L.J. may be directed to the Stomp Out Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 783, Manistee, MI 49660. This is a fund that was very close to his heart.
