LaVerne Arthur Hansen, Jr., age 69 of Baldwin, and formerly of Manistee passed away on Wednesday January 22, 2025, in Grand Rapids at Corewell Health – Butterworth Hospital.

He was born in Somers Point, NJ, on January 12, 1956, son of the late LaVerne and Mildred (Merryman) Hansen. The family moved to Manistee, where Verne spent the majority of his youth and adult life. Verne was a 1974 graduate of Manistee High School and served in the United States Navy.

His time in the Navy provided him an opportunity to visit great destinations such as Italy and Egypt. Verne was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the science fiction genre. He also enjoyed outdoor activities with fishing and deer hunting being his favorites.

Verne is survived by his 2 brothers, David and Larry (Dale) Hansen of Manistee; sister, Cheryl (John) Anderson of Holland; 4 nieces, Kim, Heather, Laura and Sarah; and nephew, Michael.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee with Pastor George Butler officiating. Military Honors will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until time of service.
