Karen Sue Pomeroy, 66, of Manistee passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She was born Karen Sue Larson on October 5, 1957, in Manistee, Michigan, the daughter of Kenneth and Glenda Larson. She graduated from Manistee High School with the class of 1975 and then went on to continue her education at Ferris State University.
On August 29, 1981, she married the love of her life Matthew John Pomeroy at the First Congregational Church in Manistee. August 29, 2024, would have marked 43 years married. Together they owned and operated Manistee Vinyl Products from 1986 until 2023. Karen managed the business half while Matthew operated the labor half. It speaks volumes to their strong bond that they could work together and operate a successful business for that many years. Not only did their bond together strengthen through the business but it also engrained the two of them into the larger community of Manistee. Their work preceded them as anyone who has had their home worked on by them can attest to their strong work ethic, perfectionist attitude and kind nature.
Karen enjoyed endless hours riding their Harley Davidson with Matthew and many of their friends throughout the years. That sense of freedom was also shared in her love of walks through nature with her friends, family and dogs. Many stories, laughs and memories shared along the Magoon Creek trails and beachfront where she loved collecting beach glass and heart shaped stones.
Karen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. She always put others' needs before her own and found great joy in helping those around her. Her caring and compassionate soul meant she didn't hesitate to give of herself when others were struggling. Even during difficult times in her own life, her empathetic and unselfish heart kept her focused on brightening the lives of those closest to her.
Karen is survived by her loving husband and soulmate Matthew Pomeroy; sons and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Danielle Pomeroy and Jesse Pomeroy; grandson Camden Pomeroy and granddaughter Ayla Pomeroy; mother-in-law Gloria Pomeroy; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Julie and Mickey Finan, Cindy and Pat Welsh, Lee and Muriel Pomeroy, Sandy Pomeroy, Janet and Mike Pomeroy, Calvin Pomeroy, sister-in-law Joy Pomeroy, Rose and Steve Locke, Robert and Tammy Pomeroy, Jennifer Pomeroy; aunt and uncles Greg Behm and Christy and Bill Gutowski; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Glenda Larson, uncles David Behm and Paul Behm, her father-in-law Lee Pomeroy and brother-in-law Russell Pomeroy.
Visitation will be held at noon with memorial services to commence at 1 p.m., Sunday, September 8th, 2024, at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee with Pastor Liz Hoy officiating. A luncheon will follow at 2 p.m. at Grant Township Hall.
