John Joseph Oliver

John Joseph Oliver, age 87, born December 20th, 1938, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and physician. John lived a life of compassion, service, and dedication to others.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Jane Spicer Oliver. John leaves behind three children, Stephen Oliver (Lauren), Eric Oliver (Laura – Deceased), and Judith Martin (Paul); and his grandchildren, Abrey, Olivia, Michio, Grayson, Mikayla, and Oliver. He is also survived by his sisters, Sally Wojtowicz and Patricia Wagner. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Kalish and parents, Byron and Joephine Oliver.
John began his career as a teacher in Farmington, MI, where he met his wife, Jane, who was also a teacher. He later earned his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. After graduating, they relocated to Manistee, MI, where he established a family practice and dedicated more than 40 years to caring for the community. During his career, he delivered more than 2,000 babies and was deeply committed to caring for generations of families.
John enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially on the water and sailing, and found great joy in traveling, exploring history, and participating in both summer and winter outdoor activities. He especially cherished time spent with his family. He was also a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Maple Ridge Manor for their exceptional care and support, especially in his final days.
