John C. Mencarelli, age 77 from Manistee, Michigan died July 6, 2023, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family, his hospice nurse Laura, his care provider Jonathan, and his dog Ahab.

Son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, father, and grandfather: you will be missed by those still here on earth and welcomed home by those who preceded you in death.

Student, veteran, bartender, truck driver, manager, teacher, and board member: you fulfilled your many roles with dedication, integrity, and kindness.

Educator, adventurer, leader, negotiator, volunteer, and neighbor: you delighted in helping others learn, grow, and succeed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 309 Parkdale Avenue, Manistee, Michigan 49660. Visitation and children's activities at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 am, and luncheon at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Manistee County Council on Aging (the Senior Center) at 260 St. Mary's Parkway, Manistee, MI 49660 where John and his wife Susan were able to dine, dance and participate in many fun, informative and inclusive events together.
