Obituary

Jacquelyn (Jackie) Mantych, 84, of Manistee, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Maple Ridge Manor, in Manistee. She was born October 21, 1941, in Manistee, the daughter of James Skocelas and Irene (Meade) Skocelas.

Jackie graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1959. After graduating high school, she worked in various roles as a Nurse's Aide, Pharmacy Tech, Cashier, and Office Admin for West Shore Hospital and different doctor's offices in the area. Prior to that, Jackie spent some time working at Gerry's Flowers. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Church.

On November 26, 1960, Jackie married the love of her life, Duane Joseph Mantych, in Manistee. Together they had six children and spent many loving years together before Duane's passing in June of 2001.

Jackie cherished time spent with her siblings, children, grandchildren, and many dear friends. She found great joy in cooking with and for her family and simply being together in the peaceful surroundings of the home she shared for many years with her husband, Duane, and their children. She faithfully attended her grandchildren's sporting events and school activities, rarely arriving empty-handed, often bringing dinner along so her children could return home with meals for their families after busy evenings.

Jackie had a warm, playful spirit, and sometimes silly sense of humor that brought smiles to those around her. She shared many meaningful moments with her siblings Jerry, Phyllis and Mike, and her dear friend Belle. In her later years, she formed a special bond with her close friend Kathy at Maple Ridge Manor. The two could often be found visiting in each another's rooms or sitting side by side in the dining room, sharing laughs and quiet companionship.

Jackie loved working on puzzles and could happily lose herself in one for hours. She also was a huge fan of Elvis and the Detroit Pistons. Most of all, Jackie loved her family wholeheartedly and treasured the lifelong closeness she shared with her siblings. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Harold Calton for his steadfast friendship with our mother over the years, and to the entire staff at Maple Ridge Manor for the compassion, care, and love they showed both her and our family throughout her time there.

Jackie is survived by: her daughters, Candace (Tim) Owens of Manistee, Cynthia (Steve) McLintock of Traverse City, Cheryl (Chris) Hogan of Manistee, and Karen (Mike) Feliczak of Manistee; sons, Daryl Mantych of Manistee and Mark Mantych of Manistee; grandchildren, Karee, Garrett, Eric, Chad, Kaitlyn, Kristin, Alex, Mia, Benjamin, Justin, Rylee, and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Hazel, Violet, Maximiliano, Amelia, and Cian; brothers, Jerry Skocelas of Muskegon and Mike (Tracy) Skocelas of Manistee; and sister, Phyliss (Bernie) Henion of Ludington.

Jackie was preceded in death by: her husband, Duane Joseph Mantych; granddaughter, Haley McLintock; sisters, Audrey Skocelas, Charlotte (Clarence) Janowiak, Rose (Neil) Wittlieff, Kathleen Skocelas, and Marie (Jack) Martineau; brothers, Ben (Judy) Skocelas and Sonny (Judy) Skocelas; and sister-in-law, Renee Skocelas.

In accordance with Jackie's wishes, a private Celebration of Life will be held, and Interment will take place in Mount Carmel Cemetery, in Manistee, at a later date.
