Howard F. Gilmore, friend to many and teacher to all, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 6, 2023, at the age of 92.
He was born on January 7, 1931, in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late Frank A. and Laura W. (Sexton) Gilmore. He graduated from Flint High School and then went on to attend Western Michigan University where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees.
On August 21, 1954, Howard married Eloise "Ellie" A. Youells at First United Methodist Church in Swartz Creek. They shared 63 years together before Ellie's passing on October 18, 2017.
Howard had been an Industrial Arts Teacher, working at Bronson, Garden City, and Dearborn Public Schools until 1986. He retired as a schoolteacher, but started H&E Machine Repair servicing primarily the school machines until he retired in 2006.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Flint, Swartz Creek, Bronson, Garden City, and Byron, Michigan.
In his free time, Howard enjoyed machine work and repair, being an airplane pilot, and completing mission work in Central America which he had done once a year for about 25 years.
Howard is survived by his children Ruth (Bob) Perkey, John (Sue) Gilmore, Mark (Raini) Gilmore, and Paul (Dawn) Gilmore; nine grandchildren Kibsa, Tesha, Luke, Ryan, Amanda, T.J., Chelsea, Ian, and Heather; and 18 great grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife and parents, Howard was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Hoadley.
