Obituary

Gwendolyn Jane Lindhout, 86, passed away August 9, 2021 at MediLodge in Ludington, MI. Gwen was the daughter of Walter and Ellen Bowers of Manistee, MI. She was born June 14, 1935 and attended school in Manistee

She married Harold Lindhout in Indiana April 30, 1951. They made their home in Columbus, Ohio for a time and returned to Manistee where they raised three daughters.

In Columbus she worked as a secretary. In Manistee she worked for the Garment Factory and Glen of Michigan as a seamstress. Her favorite task was putting in zippers. She later did mending at the Dry Cleaners. When Harold became ill, she worked from home doing alterations. She was known about town as the "zipper lady".

Gwen loved to tell children about Jesus. She spent many years teaching children's church and then Sunday school. She made people feel comfortable with her hospitality. People were always welcomed to a meal and a place to stay, whether family, friend, or acquaintance, for as long as was needed. She was famous for her homemade bread, dinner rolls, and coffee cake.

Gwen loved having two of her sisters close by to share the joys of raising children together. It was a joy to raise everyone together. Her mother was a twin and she had twins (Gwen and Marvine) and they each had twins. There were several other twins throughout the family. She was most excited when her grandson had twins and she got to hold them.

She loved organizing events at her church and enjoyed skit nights and dinners, visiting family and friends. Traveling was a highlight as she visited relatives in several states.

Gwen attended Heritage Baptist Church and became a mentor to many young women. The church was a definite blessing to her. Whenever there was a need, someone would accommodate her with happiness. She always said you rob someone of a blessing if you do not allow them to do something. God blesses you with the service and them for providing it,

Her favorite message for her answering machine was to end it with "Jesus loves you!"

She is survived by her daughters Irene McGlynn of Wolverine, Kathy Lindhout of Traverse City,
Karen Castoro (Nick) of Wellston, and stepdaughter Susan Rogers (Robert) of Lucasville, OH, granddaughters; Nekol, Annette, Catarina, Ashli, and Emily, step-grandaughter Denise, grandsons Sean & Jameson, step-grandsons Steven, Robert, and Eric, & 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Marvine Kadzban of Grandville, MI.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her brothers Dale, Ralph, Carl, Sterl, and Don, her sisters Helen and Faye and her parents.
