Gladys Mae McCarthy, age 94, of Manistee, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 16,
2025
.
She was born on May 13, 1931, in Northport, Michigan, to Evits Putnam and Ruth (Lanham)
Putnam.

Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alan McCarthy, and her seven siblings.
She is lovingly remembered by her three children: Michael McCarthy (Jessica), Patrick
McCarthy (Kathy), and Kim McCarthy Nussbaum (Ken). Her legacy continues through her eight
grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Gladys worked in various bookkeeping roles as she and Alan moved across
Michigan, including Harbor Beach, Port Huron, and eventually Manistee, following his career as
a railroad agent with the Chessie System.

Gladys was a talented crafter and seamstress, and she cherished time spent with her
grandchildren—especially during summers in Manistee, where she enjoyed the beach, boating,
and relaxing on her porch. In later years, she and Alan wintered in Lakeland, Florida, embracing
the warm climate and new friendships.

A celebration of Gladys's life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Red Park Association of Manistee,
Michigan, in her honor.
