Eunice Barbera's Obituary
Eunice Lorraine Barbera, age 95 of Arcadia, beloved beautiful mother, grandmother & great grandmother received her Heavenly crown of Glory on June 13, 2024, at 4:32 am. at Maple Ridge Manor in Manistee. Another Angel called home; her angelic contagious smile would brighten the room. She taught us well to love God and cherish family & friends.
She was born on April 13, 1929, in Manistee, the daughter of the late Joseph & Esther (Nelson) Anderson. Eunice grew up in Manistee and graduated from Manistee High School in 1947. She was Miss Snowbird in 1951. She furthered her education at Augusta College in Rock Island, IL and graduated from the Chicago College of Laboratory Technique.
Eunice was employed at the Jefferson Clinic in Chicago, IL and the S.S. Burke Clinic in Detroit, MI before marrying Andrew J. Barbera on January 9, 1953, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Manistee. Andrew and Eunice moved to Manistee in 1956 and later moved to West Lafayette, IN, where she worked as the head secretary to the head of the Department of English at Purdue University. She also completed additional classes while at Purdue. She was a passionate reader. Upon Andy's retirement they moved to Arcadia. Andy preceded her in death on April 18, 2023.
Survivors include her sons; Mark (Karen) Barbera and Paul Barbera of Arcadia, her treasured granddaughter and great-grandsons; Stephanie (Todd) Galdes and Urban, Henrik, & Grady of Traverse City.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers; Arnold (Mardene) Anderson & Glen (Audrey) Anderson, and one sister; Shirley (Gene) Schubert.
In recognition of her wishes a private immediate family service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, Eunice actually had notes in reference to her own obituary and specifically requested the following: "Instead of a wake, visitation or flowers (she had a negative thing about expensive, short-term flowers), she wanted family and friends to do something that they would enjoy together that would be special or meaningful." Memorials may be directed, in her name, to Trinity Lutheran (ELB Endowment) of Arcadia, P.O. Box 139, Arcadia, MI 49613.
