Eric Jon Sovereign, age 55 of Kaleva, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday November 30, 2024.

He was born on December 17, 1968, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Donald Jon and Suzanne Esther (Brune) Sovereign. He graduated from Manistee High School and attended Grand Valley State University.

Eric married Cassandra DeLozier on June 21, 2014, and they shared 19 years together filled with lots of laughter and happiness.

In his working career, Eric had worked for Yona Solutions as a Regional Manager, Hawthorn Retirement as a Building Manager, and at the Manistee County Sheriff's Department where he was awarded the Life Savings Award, which he and his family were very proud of.

He was a volunteer firefighter in Ada, Michigan and a rescue diver with the Manistee County Sheriff's Department. He was proud of both of those associations and all of the training and team work they had.

Eric was an excellent athlete all his life and really loved coaching with the Manistee High School Football teams a few years ago. Many people knew him from his work teaching and mentoring the team. Eric found so much joy in watching both of his sons excel in football, and pretty much every other sport, and he was so proud of their success. He was there every game, coaching and mentoring them.

He was a foodie and loved to cook. Eric and Cassandra traveled all over the United States with Hawthorn Retirement and were able to experience everything Eric wanted to –new cultures, food, music, etc. Everything was new and different no matter where they were. He loved meeting new people and hearing their stories and sharing his own.

Eric loved music of all kinds and was a voracious reader and lifelong learner. He was an adventurer who adored traveling backroads with his wife and a dreamer with the biggest heart. Eric's biggest pride was his children. He was a one-of-a-kind man who lived his wild and precious life the way he wanted.

He is survived by his wife Cassandra Sovereign of Kaleva; children Jarett Sovereign, Austin Sovereign, Bailey Meadowcroft all of Kaleva, and Brianne (Travis) Bohy of Farwell, Michigan; mother Suzanne Sovereign; siblings Donna Sovereign of Onekama, Sally (Rob) Wagoner of Manistee, Gordy (Julie) Sovereign of Traverse City, and Forrie (Terry) Moeggenberg of Shepherd, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eric was preceded in death by his father, Donald.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday December 28, 2024, from 2:00PM until 4:00PM at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee.
