Edward "Ray" Raymond Fortier, age 89 of Manistee, peacefully passed away on Wednesday December 7, 2022, at Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
Ray was born on March 19, 1933, in Manistee, Michigan, the son of the late Percy and Clara (Bluhm) Fortier. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, proudly serving in the United States Army for 5 years until he was honorably discharged.
He had worked for Ideal Dairy delivering and bottling milk for six years, at Jerry's Flower for eighteen years, and as security guard at Burn's Security. Ray was a member of Manistee City Council for two years, being first elected in November of 1995, served on the teen committee, the 911 board, and the planning commission for four years.
Ray enjoyed herb gardening, as well as attending yard sales. He volunteered a lot of his time at the Manistee County Historical Museum. Ray enjoyed many wonderful adventures over the past several years, thanks to his special friends Jim and Meg K., and to his great-niece Ashley Johnson, her husband Matt and their kids Payton and Crosby.
He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his siblings Marjorie Fortier, Douglas Fortier, William Fortier, Milton Fortier, Percy (Jane) Fortier Jr., and James (Marcia) Fortier.
Funeral Services for Ray will be held on Monday December 12, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee with Pastor Joe Hilyard officiating. Family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
Ray will be laid to rest at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Manistee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Manistee County Historical Museum.
