Duane Kenneth Marquand, age 94 of Manistee, died Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at his home with his daughter by his side.
He was born on March 2, 1929, in Ludington, MI, the son of the late Raymond & Mathilda (Stahl) Marquand. He was a 1947 graduate of Manistee High School. On January 26, 1951, he married Phyllis H. Smogoleski in Manistee. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2006.
Duane was employed as a lineman by Consumers Power Company for 41 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee. An environmentalist, he advocated for the cleaning of Lake Michigan waters. He also played an active role in the establishment of Sundling Park and Magoon Creek Natural Area in Filer Township. He enjoyed golf & was a longtime member of the Manistee Golf & Country Club. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, & gardening.
Survivors include his daughter; Terri LaGuire of Ludington, son; Tim Marquand of Manistee, four grandchildren; Brian LaGuire, Elizabeth, Felicia, & James Marquand, six great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son; Kenneth Marquand on January 14, 1965, his sister & brother-in-law; Marolyn & David Erickson, son-in-law; Fay LaGuire, and special companion; Joyce Polen.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee with Pastor Dennis Rahn officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 12 Noon until time of service.
