Dorothy Louise Orvosh, age 95 of Manistee, passed away on Monday June 23, 2025, at Maple Ridge Manor in Manistee.
She was born on May 31, 1930, in Detroit, daughter of the late Christian and Louise (Moll) Andersen. Dorothy attended Herbert Hoover grade school and graduated from Lincoln Park High School. From an early age, Dorothy wanted to be a nurse, as she was routinely taking care of the injured "Cowboys and Indians" playing in the neighborhood. She then spent 3 years at Providence Hospital school to obtain her RN certificate. Later in life, Dorothy went back to school to obtain her bachelor's degree, as she loved being a nurse.
While she was a student nurse, Dorothy met her husband, John. Dorothy and John married on November 2, 1951, in Wayne County. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2017.
In their early years, Dorothy and John would come to Manistee to fish for salmon and perch. They eventually moved to Manistee from Livonia to retire. Dorothy loved reading, knitting and spending time with family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her son, John Michael (Catherine) Orvosh, 2 daughters, Kristine (Keith) Wittleff and Marijo (Tom) Reckow all of Manistee; 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service for Dorothy and her husband John will be held at 11:30AM on Saturday September 20, 2025, at the Tabernacle Church in Manistee. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:30AM until the time of service. Military honors for John will be held at the conclusion of the memorial service.
