Donald Shreve's Obituary
Donald Edgar Shreve, 89, of Bear Lake, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026. He was born January 9, 1937, in Bear Lake, the son of Donald Harrison Shreve and Frances Hannah (Kingscott) Shreve.
He graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1955. After graduating, Donald joined the United States Navy where he proudly served our country as an Avionics Technician for over 30 years. Early on, he was stationed on the USS Hornet and USS America. He also spent many years in Japan alternating between sea duty on the USS Midway and shore duty on Yokosuka Naval Base. While serving in the Navy, Donald earned a Bachelor of Science from Chapman College and then a Master of Science from University of Southern California. He retired in 1989 at the rank of Master Chief and returned to Bear Lake.
On April 14, 1962, Donald married the love of his life, Dorothy Ellen (Scott), at Nardin Park United Methodist Church in Farmington Hills. After nearly sixty years of marriage, Dorothy passed away in July of 2021.
Donald enjoyed gardening, reading, and amusing people with his inexhaustible supply of punny t-shirts. He also sang in the choir at the Methodist church for years.
Donald is survived by: his son, Daniel Shreve of St. Clair Shores, MI; daughter, Diane (Tom) Sheehy of Dearborn Heights, MI; granddaughter, Amanda (Bob) Bundy of Elsmere, KY; grandson, Philip (Justine Delaney) Shreve of St. Clair Shores, MI; great-grandchildren, Liliana and Willa Bundy, and Miles and Daisy Shreve; He is also survived by his sisters, Rosalie (Dave) Wagner and Anneke (John) Larrance; and daughter-in-law, Michele Barry.
Donald was preceded in death by: his parents; his sister, Suzanne Henning; his brothers, Anthony Shreve and Peter Shreve; and his loving wife, Dorothy Ellen Shreve.
Memorial services will be conducted at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Bear Lake Community Church, 7861 Main St, Bear Lake, MI 49614, with the family receiving friends at 11:00 AM, and a luncheon following the service at the church. Interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery, in Bear Lake, at 2:00 PM, with Military Funeral Honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Donald Shreve may be made to Bear Lake Community Church.
