David Tennant, 77, of Manistee, laid down peacefully for his final rest on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Dave and his twin brother were born in July 1948, the sons of James and Alice (Carlson) Tennant.
He grew up in Onekama and graduated from Onekama High School in 1966. Later he earned his Bachelor's Degree at Ferris State University and Davenport College. After graduation, Dave worked for many years at Manisteel. He later took a position at Packaging Corporation, where he worked until retirement.
In the summer of 1974, David married (and years later divorced) Paulette Tasker. They had two children, Rebecca and Clinton. Spending time on the water and in the garden have been lifelong hobbies of his, as well as working on his classic cars and his home. He enjoyed giving back to the community, starting with Scouting as a boy, and Manistee Jaycees as a young adult. After having children and grandchildren, David's life became about giving to them.
He drove and flew cross-country to San Diego for many years after retiring to spend the winters and springs with his son, daughter, son-in-law, three grandchildren, and grand pup. Opa, as he was known to his grandchildren, adored Evi, Kai, and Nebi. He was as much of a light in their lives as they were in his.
Over the last few years, Dave enjoyed traveling to Germany with his daughter's family to visit in-laws and create some new adventures. In San Diego, you could often find Dave walking after his morning coffee, chatting with neighbors, and greeting every dog with a smile and a treat. In Manistee, Dave enjoyed spending time with his friend and neighbor Dave, visiting with friends and family, and again, greeting every dog with a smile and a treat. A truly kind, helpful, and generous person who brought happiness to those who knew him.
David is survived by: his son, Clinton of San Diego; daughter, Rebecca (husband Peter) of San Diego; grandchildren, Evidence, Nicholas (Nebi), and Kai; brothers, Darwin (wife Carolyn), Jeffrey, and Ronald; and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center Manistee, 309 Parkdale Avenue, Manistee, MI 49660.
Dave loved all animals but had a dear love for dogs. He knew the name of every dog in the neighborhood and even some of their people. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Manistee Humane Society. https://homewardboundmanistee.org/shelter-needs
