David Nelson Stamp, Jr., age 76, of Manistee, passed away on Sunday January 9, 2022, at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids.
He was born on December 11, 1945, in Manistee, son of the late David Nelson and Janis Marie (Schweitzer) Stamp, Sr. David attended Manistee High School, graduating with the class of 1965.
David served during the Vietnam War, enlisting with the United States Army, serving until he was honorably discharged for his injuries he sustained. He was a recipient of a purple heart for his heroism shown when a member of his platoon stepped on a land mine. David married Diane L. Fausz on May 24, 1969, at Onekama Trinity Lutheran Church.
He worked for many years at Hardy/Akzo Salt in Manistee and later at Little River Casino Resort before he retired. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, loved riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and friends.
David is survived by his wife, Diane Stamp of Manistee; daughter, Lori (Mike) Weaver of Manistee; son, Eric Stamp of Manistee; grandchildren, Brett (Jesse) Long, Amber Weaver, Nicole Weaver, Brendon Weaver and Gavin Weaver; sister, Margaret Stamp of Scottville; and numerous, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evelyn Schram, Arlene Stamp, Donna Jean Stamp, and infant sister Florence Marie Stamp; brothers, Freddy Stamp, Robert "Bobby" Stamp, and infant brother Denny Stamp.
Funeral services with military honors for David will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday January 14, 2022, at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee with Pastor Jacob Sherry officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Manistee in the spring of 2022.
