The Lord Jesus carried The Rev. Darowin Cordes into God's presence on Tuesday February 4, 2025.
He was the seventh child of Herman and Emma (Krueger) Cordes of Hillman, Michigan. After baptism at home and graduating from St. John's Lutheran School in Hillman, he matriculated to Concordia Milwaukee for High School and Junior College in preparation for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Ministry.
He entered Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in September 1955 and in August of 1958 he married Julie Ann Roth.
After graduation and one year of graduate school in New Testament Studies, he served his first parish at Immanuel in Rosebud, MO, and St Johns in Drake, MO in 1961. He took a call to Peace Lutheran in Utica, MI in 1965. Their daughter Leah Anita was born in 1967. In 1970 Darowin and Julie adopted their son Daniel. The University of Detroit conferred a Masters in Pastoral and Marriage Counseling.
After Peace Lutheran, Pontiac, MI, called him in 1971. Darowin lost his wife, Julie, in an auto accident in 1974.
In August of 1974 Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee called him to be their pastor. In April of 1977, he married Janet Wild, who preceded him in death on February 5, 2022.
Reverend Cordes retired in 1997 after serving Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee for 23 years. Since retirement he served six parishes as interim pastor in West Michigan.
He is survived by his children Daniel (Kelly) Cordes, Leah Cordes, Karen Wild-Brown, Rev. Jani (Deb) Wild, Susan (Jamey) Barnard, Nelson Wild, David (Lulu) Wild; twenty grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday February 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee. The family will receive friends on Friday February 14, 2025, at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Manistee from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and again on Saturday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee.
